Thanks to Len A for giving me the opportunity to review this clarinet!
The 5P first version is all wood except for the bell, and has trill keys on three posts.
Bore LH joint top: 14.7mm
Bore LH joint at bottom: 14.7mm
Intonation results taken when playing loud and not lipping. See how to interpret these results on the Model Comparison Page.
For this test, I pulled 0 at the barrel and 0 at the center tenon, and I used a 64.2mm barrel.
Intonation summary: Excellent! This instrument also does not have the stuffiness I have noticed in the chalumeau C-Bb on other plateau clarinets— namely the plastic Vitos.
Key work quality: Top quality, very sturdy. Plateau keys use 12mm .110" Valentino Green Back pads, with almost no glue. The keys and tone holes match nicely in the flat position in most cases.
This clarinet is most appropriate for: Young students with small hands or senior adults with arthritic hands.
Condition issues noted: Left thumb key has minor contact wear. But that is all.
2Feb2015, #7490, for Len and John. This is one of the best plateau clarinets I have ever worked on.
